Our Library

The Cedar Falls Public Library empowers residents through access to free resources, encourages them to explore new thoughts and ideas, and facilitates engagement between individual patrons and organizations throughout the Cedar Valley. We cultivate enduring pathways to experiences that inspire, enrich, and captivate the imagination.

“Since 1878, the Cedar Falls Public Library has been serving residents as a free, tax-supported library. Compared to the first circulating collection of 1,300 books, today’s CFPL collections are much more varied, including video, audio recordings, games, musical instruments, tech devices, STEM kits, lawn games, and much more. Our seed library complements the gardening and seed-saving programs offered by staff and local experts and provides an exchange program for local gardeners.

From the beginning, the Cedar Falls Public Library has worked to serve the needs of all of our community members, and we will continue to strive to make our collections, services, spaces, and programs more welcoming to all. We look forward to finding new ways of serving Cedar Falls and the surrounding community.” –Kelly Stern, Library Director, 2023

LIBRARY DEPARTMENTS

Public libraries are places for people to gather, explore, learn, create, and connect with others and with the wider world. They are where you can discover and pursue your passions, and the CFPL staff is here to help you along the way. The library is comprised of three departments that work in tandem to serve our community and forward our strategic plan.

 Circulation & Technical Services

When entering the library, our Information/Circulation Desk is the first thing most patrons see. This department helps patrons acquire library cards, complete Interlibrary Loans, and, of course, help patrons check out materials.

 Reference

Need help on the computer or with finding information? Look no further than our reference department, which lives on the second floor of the library. They are information wizards and help patrons navigate our physical and digital collections.

Youth & Teen

While most known for its Summer Reading Program, the youth department offers up excellent programming all year round for youth ages 0-18. Even when there are no special events, there is always something to do whether that is playing a board game with friends, coloring a picture, putting on a puppet show, or “cooking” a meal in our playhouse.
