There is No Place for Us: A Community Book Discussion

October 28 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Join us for a community-wide discussion of Brian Goldstone’s There Is No Place for Us: Working and Homeless in America, a powerful work of narrative nonfiction about five families struggling to remain housed while working in a rapidly changing city. The book explores the rise of “working homelessness” and the pressures created by rising rents, low-wage work, gentrification, racialized displacement, and gaps in housing support.

This program will offer space for community members to discuss the book’s themes and consider how housing insecurity affects families in Iowa and across the United States.  Our conversation, facilitated by Dr. Allen Hayes, will address questions of affordability, employment, public policy, and community well-being.

A limited supply of books will be available for checkout at the Reference desk (2nd floor).  While familiarity with the book will enrich the discussion, anyone is welcome to participate.  This program is located in the Meeting Room.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Cedar Falls Public Library
