"Imperial Pubs: Taverns and the British Empire ... in America." Dr. Vaughn Scribner
June 29 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Taverns were the life-blood of British American society, helping colonists connect with each other--and nebulous ideas of "being British"--through a never-ending variety of goods and services. In this presentation, historian Vaughn Scribner will explore taverns as drivers of British American identity, and help explain why these critical spaces ultimately helped colonists break away from the empire they professed to love.
*Dr. Scribner is an Associate Professor of American History at the University of Central Arkansas and the author of three award-winning books and dozens of articles and book chapters. He lives in Conway, Arkansas, with his wife, Kristen, and their rescue pup, Tod.
