Summer Library Program:
June 3 through July 26, 2019!

Join us in the library parking lot for our annual kickoff to the Summer Library Program! Music by Janey and the Growlerz, activities for children, mini sandwiches from Jimmy John’s (while supplies last), and more. Bring your lawn chair and sunscreen and celebrate summer with us!

Summer Library Program:
A Universe of Stories

Cedar Falls Public Library Youth Summer Reading Program: June 3–July 26
For children ages birth through 6th grade. Registration begins Monday, June 3.
Make three weekly library visits and earn a free book! After six weekly visits, earn another free book! Paper reading logs and stickers available for very young children to track how much they are read to during the summer.

Tuesday, June 11 from 6–8 pm

Mike Wohnoutka, illustrator of the picture book This Is Not a Cat
Thursday, June 13, Meeting Room
*10:30 a.m.: Mike Wohnoutka, award-winning author of the picture book This Is Not a Cat, will talk about the making of the book, how he became an illustrator, and he will do some drawing, too, of course!
*1:00 p.m.: Harry Potter, Dogman, The Lunch Lady—heroes come in all different shapes and sizes. In this session students will create their own super heroes. Mike will show how he develops characters for his books and then work with students on creating their own hero characters, using different illustration techniques.
*Pre-registration required. For children K-6th grade. Limited to 45 participants.

The Real Beal’s One-Man Band

Join Jeff and Nancy Beal for an old-fashioned musical experience for all ages. Jeff has created his own fascinating one-man-band gear, so in addition to enjoying the music, you will also learn about how his creation works.

GKids Kid Flicks short films
Tuesday, June 25, 2:30 p.m. (all ages) & Wednesday, June 26, 3 p.m. (ages 8 & up), Youth Department
Join us for a showing of the winning short films from the New York International Children’s Film Festival. For all ages. Popcorn and juice will be served. Running time approx. 75 min.

Musician Kevin Farris will perform a family concert guaranteed to have you and your little ones moving and having a great time!

Pedal Fest Puppet Show
Sunday, July 7, 2:30 p.m., Meeting Room
You are invited to participate in the Cedar Valley Pedal Fest’s “Pedal to the Puppet Show Ride.” Register at 2:00 p.m. at Gateway Park, and at 2:30 p.m. ride the trail over the Cedar River and under the Main Street and First Street bridges to State Street and then to the Cedar Falls Public Library for a puppet show and refreshments. You will take the same route in revers back to Gateway Park for a book giveaway by Books Not Bombs Cedar Valley.

Martika

Madcap Puppets
Thursday, July 18 at 10:00 & 11:00 a.m., Meeting Room
Based in Cincinnati, Ohio, Madcap Puppets is a theatre nationally recognized for engaging and original children’s theatre productions, as well as in-school educational programs that include performances, workshops and residencies. Join us for a puppet show with their signature large, wearable puppets. Check them out at www.madcappuppets.com.

Summer Storytimes
June 3–July 31, 10:30 a.m., Youth Department
Mondays: Baby storytime (0–23 months)
Tuesdays: Preschool storytime (3–5 year-olds)
Wednesdays: Toddler storytime (2–3 year-olds)
Fridays: Toddler storytime (2–3 year-olds)
Saturdays: Preschool storytime (3–5 year-olds)

Please note: According to our safe child policy, all children under 11-years-old must be  accompanied by and be within sight of a responsible adult caregiver at all times while in the library.
