Participants will be guided on a personal Nature Quest by selecting from a series of monthly workshops and open studio classes (locations will be shared between the Hearst and the Library) hosted by artists and field experts throughout the seasons. Open studio sessions will encourage participants to create and reflect in personal journals using a variety of prompts from How To Be An Explorer of the World by Keri Smith (each participant will receive a free copy while supplies last) with social time geared towards cultivating a sense of community. Materials will be provided. As the program ends upon one year of seasonal change\, all participants will be invited to show their work at the Hearst and Cedar Falls Library. This program is made possible through the Cedar Falls Community Foundation.

DESCRIPTION:Meeting Room.Each April\, the Cedar Falls Public Library hosts an author-in-residence program for 5th graders called Cedar Valley's Youth Read. This year's author is Lisa Graff. Lisa Graff began writing at the age of eight\, when—after complaining she was bored—her mother advised her to “go write a book or something.” Now she is the author of 18 books for children and teens\, among them “A Tangle of Knots” (a National Book Award nominee)\, “Absolutely Almost” (an NCTE Charlotte Huck Honor Book)\, and most recently\, “Rewind\,” which Publishers Weekly praised as “an immersive\, laugh-out-loud time-travel novel” . . . with “classic Back to the Future flair.” Together\, her books have been named to over 70 state lists. A former children’s book editor and professor of Children’s Literature\, Lisa now writes full-time from her home outside of Philadelphia.Please join us at 6:30 p.m. on April 22nd for a public session of Ms. Graff's presentation.Funding for CVYR was provided by the Cedar Falls Community Foundation Rob and Shirley Berg Fund for use by the Library.

DESCRIPTION:Join us as we celebrate the culmination of our year long collaboration between the Hearst Center and the CF Library with a special exhibition of new works by community artists inspired by their participation in Nature Quest workshops and open studios.  \nRefreshments will be served starting at 6pm followed by a special call to continue your creative path from Community Leader\, Kamyar Enshayan\, at 6:30 in Mae Latta Hall. \nHearst Center for the ArtsAll ages welcomeNo registration \nWorks created in and outside Nature Quest workshops are featured in this community-sourced exhibition. The Cedar Falls Public Library and the Hearst Center for the Arts worked together to present Community Nature Quest\, a new year-long program designed to foster creative engagement with our natural surroundings. Beginning in May 2025 and running through May 2026\, this free\, community-centered initiative invites participants to explore local nature through expert-led lectures and open art studio sessions dedicated to an ongoing nature art journal project.Made possible by the Cedar Falls Community Foundation: Kathryn Ray Fund for use by the Library.
