Area author Linda McCann will discuss her latest book, Prisoners of War in Iowa. Linda will be selling books and signing them after her presentation. There were about 25,000 German, Italian and Japanese Prisoners of War in Iowa during World War II. There were two main camps in Iowa--Algona and Clarinda. Each held about 3,000 prisoners. Additionally, there were about 17 branch camps in Iowa that had POWs for short-term projects; mostly over the summer, and were usually under 200 prisoners each. Linda spoke with people who worked with the POWs or got to know them in some way, and shares their stories in her writing.
