Digital Storybuilding | September 8 at 3:00 pm
Bring some building blocks, lego bricks, or a pencil and some paper, and get creative! Listen to your friend Tait read a story, then create something from the story using your materials! You can use whatever you want to build, fold, or draw something that makes you think of the story you read, and then you can share it with your friends! Grades K-3, Digital, >Registration Required.

Art Step-by-Step | November 10 at 5:00 pm
Show your artsy side! We’ll provide you with an art kit, and walk you through the steps of creating your own masterpiece. Once you are finished we’ll show you how to personalize it so your painting is one of a kind. Kits will be available to pick up November 3rd. Digital Create-and-Show | November 11 at 3:00 pm
Show us your talents! Display your creativity!  Make something fun, wonky, or weird! The only rule is that you share something you made yourself. Bring a picture of it or show us what you made on Zoom! Everyone will have some time to talk about the thing they made and how they made it. Crafts, stories, poems, and more are all encouraged! Holiday Crafts: Paper Snowflakes | December 3 at 5:00 pm

Word Wizards

Writing Comics and Cartoons | September 16 at 3:00 pm
Are you a cartoonist at heart? Do you want to write awesome comics, amazing graphic novels, or hilarious cartoons? Come to Word Wizards where we will explore different kinds of visual storytelling. Feel free to grab a Tween Bag from the library, which has panels for you to fill out! Grades K – 6, Digital, >Registration Required. 

Digital Scary Story Workshop | October 14 at 3:00 pmSnoopy artGet your spooky stories ready to submit for our Spooky Story Contest! Spend a little time talking with some friends about what you might write about, and get your submission ready to send for judging! Kids of all elementary ages are welcome to participate in the workshop and submit their spooky story to our contest. Grades K-6, Digital, >Registration Required.

Scary Story Submission Deadline | October 21 at 3:00 pm
 Submit your spookiest story to our contest for a chance to win a fabulous prize! Submissions should be 500 words or less and fit a spooky October theme. Prizes will be provided in the K – 3rd Grade category and the 4th – 6th Grade category. Please submit your stories as a PDF to tlarson@cedarfallslibrary.org by 11:59 on October 21 so they can be considered for the contest. Contest winners will be announced Friday, October 30, and posted on the Library Facebook page.

Tween Bags

September–Comic Making Kit
 Come pick up everything you need to start inking an awesome cartoon. Each kit comes with empty panels, a how-to-draw guide, and a felt-tip pen. Registration not required, claim materials at Curbside Pickup area. Please observe social distancing guidelines when getting materials.

September — Clay Friend
Make a fun friend out of clay, then put them somewhere in Cedar Falls so other people can find them! Each bag includes modeling clay and a few ideas for making clay shapes and figures.  Registration not required, claim materials at Curbside Pickup area. Please observe social distancing guidelines when getting materials.

September –Tween Activity, Rock Candy
Make some delicious, colorful rock candy! We’ll provide a mason jar and a wooden rod, so all you need is a stove and some sugar! (Plus, a responsible adult, please.) Please register by calling or emailing the Youth Desk and scheduling a time to pick up your materials in the Library or at a curbside pickup. We’ll discuss how making your rock candy went at Tween Time on September 22! Ages 9-12, Registration Required.

October–Paper Skyscrapers
Are you an architect-in-the-making? Show your craftiness, and your building prowess, by picking up a Paper Skyscraper Kit from the library! Each folder contains paper and instructions to make your own skyscrapers out of paper!  Registration not required, claim materials at Curbside Pickup area. October–Bookmark
You’ll never lose your place in your book with your own, handmade, fabulous bookmark! Each bag contains everything you need to make an awesome bookmark for all your recreational reading needs. October –Tween Activity: Movie Night in a Bag
Are you ready for a movie night? Don’t forget to bring your Movie Night in a Bag from the Library! Each bag contains snacks and activities that are great for watching movies – all you need is to find a movie to watch! After you watch your movie, get ready to discuss it at Tween Time on October 28. Please register by calling or emailing the Youth Desk and scheduling a time to pick up your materials in the Library or at a curbside pickup. Ages 9-12, Registration Required

November –Paper Airplanes
Think you know everything about making paper airplanes? Think again! Each Tween Bag comes with paper and instructions to make several awesome planes, plus suggestions for challenges you can do to test your creations.  Registration not required, claim materials at Curbside Pickup area. November–Origami Basics
Origami is a challenging, fun way to make paper creations! Each bag contains special origami paper and instructions for a variety of shapes and creatures. Practice makes perfect! November–Tween Activity: Relaxation Kit
This time of year is exciting, but it can be stressful too. Luckily, anyone can learn the skills to release stress and be a little more relaxed! Each Relaxation Kit comes with a scented candle, some markers, coloring sheets, and relaxation techniques so you can stay chill, man. Reflecting on the year is a great way to process all of the things you have experienced and learn. What better way than through a time capsule – a letter and other materials you keep for yourself to read in the future! Grab everything you need to write down some of the most important things about your year so you can remember it, then send it into the future! Tween Time

Whiteboard Game | September 2 at 3:00 pm
Come hang out with your friends and play some games! Did you know Zoom as a whiteboard function? If you didn’t, come learn about it! (And if you did, come show us your digital masterpieces.) We’ll play a couple of games and talk about Tween Time for the rest of the year. Ages 9-12, Digital, >Registration Required.

Rant Sessions/Rock Candy Discussion | September 30 at 3:00 pm
Do you feel strongly about something? Share it with us at Tween Time! Feel free to speak your mind as we discuss topics that are important to us, as well as talk about our experiences with Rock Candy Growing Kits. Rock Candy kits can be reserved by calling or emailing the Youth Desk and can be claimed in the Library building or at curbside pickup after registration. Virtual Board Games | October 7 at 3:00 pm
Even though we can’t gather around a table, we can still enjoy board games. Enjoy a bunch of fun games with your friends as we find the best way to play games from home! Ages 9-12, Digital, >Registration Required

Halloween Party/Movie Review | October 28 at 3:00pm
Join us for a spooky Tween Time where we read scary stories and discuss the movies you chose to watch with your Movie Night Kits! Riddles | November 4 at 3:00 pm
Do you fancy yourself a Riddlemaster? Come see if you stand up to Tween Time’s tricky riddles! We’ll go over some classic riddles and see if we can solve them together. Feel free to bring your own riddles to stump your friends! Bonus points if you can stump Tait. Ages 9-12, Digital, >Registration Required. 

 Are You Smarter than a Librarian?| November 25 at 3:00 pm
Compete in Tween vs. Grown-up trivia as we explore what library staff really know about! Can the tweens triumph over the adults? Only a strong grasp over basic grade school material will tell. (Trust us, it’s harder than it sounds.) Ages 9-12, Digital, >Registration Required

Pyramid | December 2 at 3:00 pm
Join us as we play an updated version of a classic TV game show! Work with a partner to try and guess the correct words in each category before you run out of time. Players will be rewarded for quick thinking and creativity… and a good vocabulary doesn’t hurt either. Grades Ages 9 – 12, Digital, >Registration Required

Winter Celebration | December 23
Celebrate the end of the year at Tween Time! We’ll play some games and talk about what we’re hoping for in the New Year. Ages 9 – 12, Digital, >Registration Required.
